FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Iowa Citizen Action Network & Health Care For America Now Statement On President Obama's Commitment To Heath Care Reform

Des Moines, Iowa March 5, 2010 -- Iowa Citizen Action Network as part of Health Care for America Now (HCAN) - the nation's largest health care campaign - released the following statement today following President Obama's remarks on health insurance reform:

Betty Ahrens, Executive Director of the Iowa Citizen Action Network:

"President Obama reiterated today what Iowans know all too well: we cannot trust the health insurance companies to fix the health care mess. President Obama is not only reaffirming his commitment to health insurance reform, but he is also making it clear he will not allow the health insurance industry and its defenders in Congress to kill reform or manipulate reform so that it benefits them and not the American people.

Iowa's families and businesses can no longer wait for comprehensive reform that stops insurance industry abuses, lowers costs, and offers a competitive marketplace where we can find good coverage at a price we can afford. It is time to shift power away from the insurance companies and put health care decisions back in our hands and the hands of our medical providers.

We now call on our members of Congress to listen to us - not the insurance industry - and allow a majority vote on a health care reform plan that will lower cost, increase competition, and put regulation and oversight in place to guarantee we get access to quality, affordable health care once and for all."
